Human Resources Manager - Boronia, VIC

This position is a unique opportunity for an experienced and successful Human Resources Manager to work directly with our Executive team and other members of our senior management.

Number 1 was founded by Terry Horsfall and Alan Keyes in 2013. It is now the leading national distributor of high value, natural pet consumables including 5 market-leading brands, with a focus on full-service distribution, with operations in South Coast NSW (its original base), Melbourne and Perth.

The company continues to grow year on year, and are working towards diversifying our range of products, services and both internal and external processes which align with our belief in Healthy Pets, Healthy People, Healthy Planet.

Following a period of strong, sustained growth, we recently moved our Melbourne operations to new prestigious headquarters in Boronia, and are looking to appoint new staff there to work with our national team to spearhead our ongoing growth.

The successful candidate is likely to fit the following criteria:

  • Successful history in Human Resources at a management level

  • Degree in Human Resource Management

  • Experience writing policies & procedures

  • Understanding of legislation across different states

  • Strong work ethic, teamwork and collaboration skills

  • Highly skilled in problem solving and critical thinking

  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills

  • Exceptional organisation & time management skills, with the ability to juggle multiple tasks and prioritise effectively

  • Outstanding IT & Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel

  • Experience in CRM or data management systems

  • The ability to take initiative and thrive on new challenges and tasks

  • A love of animals and the planet

  • The ability to work from home when required or during lockdowns

The company will consistently evolve, but primarily your role will be to:

  • Manage company staff, including coordinating and supporting the recruitment process

  • Effectively onboard new staff members and assist in developing adequate induction and training programs

  • Develop and manage the Human Resource department

  • Provide advice and support to staff members on confidential matters

  • Determine and provide advice to Executives on suitable salaries and remuneration

  • Support employee opportunities for professional development in line with supervisors

  • Manage succession planning of staff

  • Assist supervisors with the performance management and review process

  • Develop and maintain processes, policies & procedures

  • Maintain utmost confidentiality with all matters and develop positive relationships with all team members

  • Consistently monitor current legislation and regulations relating directly to the Company
